30th June - 24th July 2014: The Ice Age Island ~ Jersey
Back on the Ice Age Island of Jersey and (unlike last year) I was permanently located at the La Hougue Bie museum working with Jersey Heritage curator Olga Finch as a Specialist in Prehistoric Technologies. I was supporting Dr Matt Pope and his team of 25 UK academics, scientists and students for the 2014 season.
On Tuesday 2nd July, Matt Pope, Olga Finch and I were interviewed by reporter Victoria Harper from BBC Jersey Radio's Sara Palmer (below) lunchtime broadcast.
On 9th July the TV crew from BBC's Coast came to see us to film for a future episode and my role was to teach broadcaster Nick Crane how to flintknapp before we tested the result by butchering a deer leg. It was a great day and I really enjoyed working with Nick (below).
I was interviewed by Ramsay Cudlipp from the Jersey Evening Post and the article about flintknapping workshop was printed on 16th July.
On Wednesday 23rd July, I joined Kevin Pamplin for his 3pm show on BBC Radio Jersey to help he complete his regular "Wednesday Challenge" and this week it was flintknapping. First I explained the techniques to him and then let Kevin have a go - not bad for a first-timer.
