31st January 2015: YAC & Prehistoric Society Conference
I was asked to join a number of eminent archaeologists (Matt Pope, Mike Parker Pearson, Kris Lockyear and Courtney Nimura) to present the Stone Age to a group of Young Archaeologist and the Prehistoric Society at the Verulamium museum in St Albans. I was first on with a flintknapping demo to the knowledgeable and enthusiasic audience.
After my session was Matt Pope who gave a talk on the diet of early humans and then went on to butcher a deer using flint tools. Followed by Mike Parker Pearson who gave his view of Neolithic cooking from his recent research into pig mandibles and residues on pottery.
Kris Lockyear explained to the YAC members how archaeological sites can be identified and describe some of the Iron Age and Roman site in the local area.
Courtney Nimura finished the day with archaeology from the Thames and the work of the Thames Discovery Programme, showing common finds from the London foreshore.
