A section of Britannia will be at the annual Pensthorpe May Spring Festival to put on a show for the crowds, in the Reserve at around 12:30. Due to other commitments, I will be there on the 5th May only. Several other reenactment groups will be there, representing periods from Celts, 14th Century and Elizabethan.

Other activities include learning the art of Maypole dancing, May Queen/Green Man Fancy Dress Competition, Hobby Horse races, traditional dancing, storytelling, floral head dress workshops, fire performance, music and face painting.

5,000 Years of West Stow

21st - 22nd July 2012 (10am - 5pm ~ last entry 4pm)

website - www.stedmundsbury.gov.uk/weststow

The annual 5,000 Years of West Stow event will see living history reenactors covering periods from Stone Age, Celts, Romans and Anglo-Saxons. This year I will be able to attend on both days and will probably use the small information hut (see image right) to display numerous items representing prehistory and perform flintknapping demonstrations.

At West Stow you can see the reconstruction of six Anglo-Saxon buildings on their original site, built using tools and techniques from the period. The visitor centre includes a display of local archeological finds, a cafeteria and gift shop. For more information call: 01284 728718

I hope to be at the annual Ashwell Show for the second year, flintknapping in the crafts demonstrating area, along with a number of other craft displays including lace making, Stone Masonry, Watercolour and Printing Artist, Floristry and Weavers, Spinners and Dyers.

This is a traditional village show that has been going for over 90 years - one of the longest running country shows in the area and the largest in North Hertfordshire achieving up to 10,000 visitors on the single show day.
